Birthday party venue in Bournemouth

Last updated: September 2026

Milestone birthdays get one booking's worth of Ashbury Lounge, not a slice of somebody else's Saturday: up to 100 standing or 60 seated in the function room, a separate bar for 30, and a garden for 20 when the weather allows.

Birthday parties from 18th to 60th are hired privately on Bath Road in central Bournemouth, catering cooked in-house with halal options, one party on the calendar per night.

No obligation … come and see the room, then decide. Or call 01202 144484.

Your night, not a shared one

How do you host a birthday party that actually feels like an occasion?

Most milestone birthdays start the same way: a restaurant table that seats twelve, a pub back room that is still the pub, or a house that ends up hosting eighty people in a kitchen built for four. Ashbury Lounge gives the party its own room, its own bar and, when it is warm enough, its own garden, so a 40th or a 50th gets the venue to itself.

Central and private

Where is the best place to spend your 40th birthday?

Somewhere central enough that the whole guest list can get there, and private enough that it feels like your night rather than everyone else's. Ashbury sits two minutes' walk from the seafront in the centre of Bournemouth, so friends and family from Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch are a short journey away rather than a drive out to a village hall.

The function room takes up to 100 standing or 60 seated for a sit-down meal, the bar handles a further 30 on its own, and one booking has the run of the venue for the whole night.

A 40th with a mixed guest list, elderly relatives through to teenagers, tends to work best seated for the meal and standing once the music starts, and the same room does both without a break to reset the tables. There is on-site parking for anyone driving from further out, paid on site, with public car parks a short walk away for the overflow.

Start time and curfew

How late can the party run?

Music needs to finish by 11pm. The bar itself can stay open later, so the night doesn't end the second the music does.

Tell us your start time when you book and we build the evening around that finish. There is only one booking on at a time, so the room is not being turned round for whoever is in next.

If the birthday runs into the evening, the same room carries straight through rather than being reset for a second sitting, so a daytime meal and an evening dance floor can be one booking instead of two.

Catering, music and decor

What's included when you book the room?

The room was empty before you arrived, and it stays yours until you leave. There is no shared decor to work around, and nobody else's leftover bunting to take down first.

Three things are included with the room itself:

  • Catering. From our own kitchen, canapes and a buffet through to a sit-down meal, with halal catering available. Need your own caterer? Talk to us.
  • Music. Bring a DJ or a live band, whichever suits the night.
  • Decorating. Decorate it yourselves, let Ashbury's own person set it up, or hand the whole thing over as a full package.
Parking and access

What about parking and access?

There is on-site parking, paid on site, for anyone driving. It's 30 spaces, shared with the hotel and first come, first served once they're gone, with two public car parks within a five-minute walk as backup.

The bar is step-free and the function room is reached by three small steps, worth knowing for older guests.

Birthday parties sit alongside the rest of the family celebrations Ashbury hosts in Bournemouth, including christenings and wakes. Say which one you are picturing when you call and we will talk you through it.

Common questions

How to host a 40th birthday party?

Book a room that is yours for the night, with no other tables in the room. Ashbury Lounge's function room takes up to 100 standing or 60 seated, with in-house catering and a bar on hand, so the party is built around your guest list, not fitted into someone else's evening.

Where is the best place to spend your 40th birthday?

Somewhere central that your guest list can actually get to, with a room to yourselves. Ashbury Lounge is in central Bournemouth, two minutes' walk from the seafront, hosting one party at a time.

How many hours should a 50th birthday party last?

Music needs to finish by 11pm, though the bar itself can stay open later. Tell us your start time when you book and we build the evening around that finish, with one booking on at a time so nothing is rushed to make way for whoever's in next.

What is the best idea for a 40th birthday party?

A proper room, your own bar and food that comes from a real kitchen, not a buffet trolley. Ashbury Lounge's function room, bar and in-house catering are built for exactly that. There is no minimum number for a sit-down meal, and the function room takes up to 100 standing.

How to make his 40th birthday special?

Give him a night that is only his: one room, one bar, no other party sharing the building. Add a DJ or a live band and a menu built fresh in our kitchen, not off a set list.

What are the must-haves for a 40th birthday party?

A room big enough for the guest list, a bar of your own, food that comes from a real kitchen, and music you have chosen yourselves. Ashbury Lounge covers all four from one booking.
