Evening wedding receptions in Bournemouth
Last updated: 8 October 2026
An evening wedding reception at Ashbury Lounge starts when the ceremony ends. Marry at one of BCP Council's six ceremony venues, such as Bournemouth Civic Centre or Highcliffe Castle, or at a church, then bring up to 100 standing guests to 19A Bath Road for the night.
Tell us when the ceremony finishes and we set the evening's start around it. Music runs until 11pm, the bar is licensed until midnight, and yours is the only event in the venue that night.
No obligation … come and see the room before you decide. Or call 01202 144484.
Can we have just the evening reception at Ashbury Lounge?
Yes, and for a legally binding wedding that is how the day works here. Ashbury Lounge is not licensed as an approved premises for a civil ceremony, so the vows that make it legal are said somewhere that is.
BCP Council lists six ceremony venues of its own. Bournemouth Civic Centre is one, with the Register Office, the Laurels, the Willows and the Council Chamber inside it. The others are Poole Guildhall, Highcliffe Castle, the Branksome Dene community rooms, Scaplen's Court and Upton House.
Privately owned venues can be licensed too, each one separately, and a church wedding follows the same pattern. Whichever it is, tell us where and when the ceremony is when you enquire, and we will set the evening's start around it.
This page is about the evening on its own. The wedding venue page for Bournemouth covers a whole day at Ashbury, decorating and access the day before included, and the small weddings page covers the seated, daytime version.

What time does an evening wedding reception finish?
Two times are fixed. The music finishes at 11pm, and the bar is licensed until midnight.
That gives an evening reception here its shape. The dancing runs until eleven, and the bar can carry on until midnight for the guests who are not ready to go home.
Work back from those two times. If evening guests arrive at half past seven, that is three and a half hours before the music stops.
Tell your DJ or band about the 11pm finish when you book them, so the set is built to end on the song you want.
Can our DJ or band use the venue's speakers?
A speaker system is available if you need it. That is worth knowing before a DJ quotes for bringing a full rig, or if you would like your own playlist on for part of the night.
There is a microphone on site as well, which covers the speeches if they are happening here and not at the wedding breakfast.
Ask for the speakers when you book, and we will tell your DJ or band what is already in the room.

How many evening guests can the venue take?
The function room holds up to 100 standing, which suits an evening crowd that mixes and dances more than it sits. The bar takes up to 30 on its own. We give those as two separate numbers and never add them together.
If the day guests are staying on for the evening, count them in, because the total across both lists is the number the room has to hold.

Where can evening guests park?
Parking on site is paid, with 30 spaces taken first come, first served. Once the 30 spaces are taken, guests park elsewhere, so tell anyone driving to allow a few extra minutes.
Bath Road North car park, beside the Pavilion Theatre, is open 24 hours, and BCP charges there around the clock, evenings included, which is worth telling anyone who plans to leave the car overnight.
Where can evening guests stay the night?
For anyone staying over, The Lodge in Bournemouth is the one we point guests to. Put it on the evening invitation, so guests travelling in can book a room early.
What do evening guests eat and drink?
Food comes from our own kitchen, and the evening menu is put together with you. Tell us how many evening guests are coming and what you would like them to eat.
Have a caterer of your own in mind for the evening food? Raise it with us when you enquire.
All drinks come through our own bar.
